Week of August 12 2016

I basically spent all last week watching the Olympics. At first, I thought I wouldn’t see much, but then Leslie Jones started live tweeting it, and I had my usual Olympics-timed reminder that Nathan Adrian, my swimming crush, exists and I was hooked again.

I mean, I definitely didn’t look up gifs of him on Tumblr or google “Nathan Adrian body issue” or tell my BFF to or anything……. (I 100% did and highly recommend both.)

If you’ve been watching, I hope you also caught Katie Ledecky and all of the other fantastic swimmers representing the U.S. this year. They’ve done so great in Rio. This NY Times piece on the women’s 4×200 win is great: Katie Ledecky Leads U.S. to GoldMedal in 4×200 Freestyle Relay.

And this graphic they made to show how the race went is really cool and makes me love the internet even more:

And of course the Final Five, our U.S. gymnastics team, was brilliant. If you’ve missed anything, lots of clips are on this NBC Olympics YouTube channel.

Other than the Olympics, I’ve been following the election coverage, as usual. It’ll be wrapped up before we know it and we’re in a pretty scary time now. I loved this RuPal piece, which includes some talk about Trump and Clinton, on Vulture.

“Do you want a pompous braggart who doesn’t know anything about diplomacy? Or do you want a badass bitch who knows how to get shit done? That’s really the question.”

But let’s not dwell on that right now.

Let’s look at this instead:

I’m off to watch some Olympians run really fast.
