The Supreme Court last week was amazing. I mean:
SCOTUSblog’s coverage of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt is fantastic if you’re interested in a detailed look at the case.
If you’re not as familiar as me and my fellow Texans with this case, you may remember the Wendy Davis filibuster and protest at the State Capitol.
And speaking of SCOTUS, The Supreme Court’s ‘Wise Latina’ Notches Her First Key Victory on ThinkProgress is a great read. It works through the surprising Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin (affirmative action) outcome, and how Justice Sonia Sotomayor is our day’s Justice Thurgood Marshall.
Of Marshall, Justice O’Connor once said “he continuously forced his colleagues on the Supreme Court to ‘respond not only to the persuasiveness of legal argument but also to the power of moral truth.'” So if Justice Sotomayor truly is our Justice Marshall (and she appears to be), we’re lucky to have her. (Thanks, Obama!)
- I shared some YA book deals (all $1-3!) the other day. And my blogging streak is back onnnnnnnnnnn!
- If you haven’t seen it yet, stop what you’re doing and watch Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar perform at the BET Awards right now.
- After seeing David Tennant read epic Scottish Trump disses on Full Frontal, I was reminded I’d started Broadchurch a while back, so I’m watching season two of it now. It’s quiet and sad, and I love it.
